Our consultancy services are provided based on many years of experience in the petrophisical field.
Services provided:
Advice of the design of Special Core Analysis programmes to ensure optimum data acquisition in order to allow full integration of the various measurements: Cation Exchange Capacity (Qv), Formation Resistivity Factor, Resistivity Index, Capillary Data: both Mercury/Air and Air/Brine
Analysis of existing core data sets to develop robust shaly sand analysis models: Waxman Smits, Dual Water etc.
Full uncertainty analysis of final results including recommendations on the types and relative value of future data acquisition.
Past Experience
Extensive experience in shaly sand analysis in various locations: Various North Sea fields, Vietnam, Oman. Particular expertise in the integration of associated core measurements including the development of a novel approach to the variable salinity excess conductivity (Co/Cw) data.
Services provided:
Development of core based saturation height models based on a variety of functions: Brooks Corey, Thomeer, Leverett J etc. Advice on the optimum model for particular applications
Estimation of Free Water Level (FWL) based on an integration of capillary, log based saturations and pressure data.
Quantitative reliability analysis of final saturations and estimated FWLs
Past Experience
Extensive experience in the development and application of saturation/height models in multiple field studies using various physical models, Leverett J, Thomeer, Brooks Corey, Lambda etc. Modelling carried out using commercial software routines (Techlog) and various Excel-based approaches.
Developed and published a novel saturation height modelling technique based on “Saturation Permeability” (1987 see below). Contributed to SPWLA Saturation Height Modelling workshops in London and Aberdeen in 2009 & 2010.

Uncertainty analysis of core derived parameters: matrix densities, Archie m, n, Qv etc.
Uncertainty analysis of porosity evaluation including quantitative comparison of alternative evaluation models
Integrated uncertainty analysis of field-wide formation properties for input to stochastic volumetric analysis.
Past Experience
Strong advocate of a rigorous approach to petrophysical uncertainty analysis within Shell, including analysis of systematic uncertainties in computed results and analysis of the random uncertainties in field averages. Taught on a petrophysical uncertainty workshop in Shell EP Europe (UK, Norway and Netherlands 2009).
Services provided:
Advice on optimum methods for integrating and upscaling static rock properties; net/gross, porosity and permeability into static models
Recommendations of different permeability averaging methodologies and how best to preserve log scale averages on upscaling
Advice on optimum integration of log scale saturation height models in upscaled reservoir models.
Past Experience
Made significant contributions to Shell’s in-house procedures for integration of petrophysical data in intertied reservoir modelling process. These procedures included permeability data averaging, upscaling of log analysis results, and inclusion of petrophysical uncertainties. Presentations on permeability upscaling to SPE London (2007) and SPWLA Aberdeen (2009)
Services provided:
Liaison with NMR acquisition contractors on the development of optimised data acquisition programmes for particular reservoir situations.
Analysis of NMR results and integration with log, capillary and core saturations and other permeability predictors
Advanced extraction of thin bed and shale parameters from NMR data.
Past Experience
Experienced in the analysis of NMR data, its use in quality control of conventional log analysis, thin bed analysis and estimation of shale parameters.
Services provided:
Basic analysis of Production Logging and Pulsed Neutron capture surveys.
Multi rate analysis of PLT data to extract PI and zonal pressure information
Integration of cased hole saturation data with previous surveys and open hole saturations.
Past Experience
Production Log (PLT) Analysis – Analysis of multi-rate PLTs in Dai Hung field, Vietnam: project managed three-well subsea logging campaign in 1997. Also Esmond, Forbes and Gordon Fields, North Sea 1986-1990. Championed Selective Inflow performance analysis of PLT data in Shell UK
Pulsed Neutron Log (PNL) Analysis – Uncertainty Analysis of PNL saturations, Gannet A field, North Sea. Routine PNL monitoring of Esmond, Forbes and Gordon fields (1980s), published SPE paper on this: Johnson & Scanlon 1991, see below)
Services provided:
Quality Control of third party single- and multi-well petrophysical studies.
Quality Control of petrophysical input and integration of well based formation properties is static and dynamic models
Quality Control of technical reports.
Past Experience
Within Shell qualified as a Technical Authority Level 2 (TA2), responsible for technical assurance of operational evaluations, when required, analysis, integration and reporting of field level petrophysical studies.
Services provided:
Review of Technical reports and papers to ensure completeness, accuracy and clarity.
One to One coaching or more formal training on report and technical paper writing.
Past Experience
SPE Technical Editor since 1987, Review Chairman on SPEREE 2001-05, Executive Co- Editor SPEREE 2005-07. Responsible for technical reviews of over 100 SPE papers; received SPE “Peer Apart” award in 2007. Taught on SPE Technical Editor Workshop nine times: 2001-2014.
