Introducing Alan Johnson

IPS Petrophysics was established in 2016 by Alan Johnson to provide a wide range of service, solutions and training to the global petrophyiscal community.

IPS specialise in the following areas:

  • Shaly Sand Analysis
  • Saturation Height Modelling
  • Petrophysical Uncertainty Analysis
  • Integrated Static Modelling
  • Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Logs (NMR) Logs
  • Technical Quality Control (QC)
  • Technical Editing
  • Coaching and Mentoring

About Alan

IPS’ Principal Petrophysicist, Alan Johnson, has extensive global experience having lived and worked as petrophysicist in the North Sea, Abu Dhabi, Netherlands, Vietnam and Algeria. In addition, he has worked extensively on field data from Nigeria, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Gabon.

Alan’s core petrophysical skills and experience cover a broad range of petrophysical specialities: Shaly Sand Analysis, Saturation Height Modelling, Thin Bed Analysis, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Integration to Static and Dynamic Models.

His more general petroleum engineering skills were developed through experience as project lead on integrated projects while working in Shell EPTS, Petroleum Engineering, Acting Production Manager and Supervising Operations Engineer with BHP Dai Hung in Vietnam and in his early days as Wellsite Petroleum Engineer with Shell in the North Sea.

Professional Societies

Alan is an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), in both his local section: Past Programme Chair, Schools Career Guidance and SPE International: Member of Global Training Committee, Technical Editor and past Executive Co-Editor of SPE Reservoir Evaluation and Engineering (SPEREE).

He is also a member the Society of Petrophysics and Well Log Analysis (SPWLA) having previously been Technical VP for the Aberdeen Section and worked on the organising committees for various SPWLA technical conferences.
